How to use CBD Oil to Boost Your Health

CBD oil is a new and very popular product in the health and wellness arena and for good reason. It has a lot of health benefits even though I think there is a lot of misconceptions around this oil.

Is CBD Oil Legal

CBD Oil comes from the Hemp plant. So, while most people look at the hemp leaf and think “marijuana”, let’s go back to elementary school science class for a minute. Remember studying plants and there were different families, genus and species? Ok. So, I have a garden at my house & I grow green beans. I like blue lake beans because of their taste. I buy a variety of blue lakes that are a bush bean, meaning they grow in a bush, not as a long runner/vine.

Hemp is similar. The same type of plant, only Hemp is grown for industrial purposes. Its fibers are used to create cloth and it has low levels of THC (which makes you high) and it does not flower. Marijuana, on the other hand, has very high levels of THC and flowers. Believe it or not, one molecule makes the difference between these 2 plants but it makes a HUGE difference in their makeup.

Hemp or CBD oil (CBD stands for cannabinoid) has about 20% cannabinoids and less than 0.3%THC. Its illegal cousin contains about 10% CBD and over 20% THC, thus the psychotropic effects.

So, Hemp is similar to marijuana, but hemp is legal and still provides many of the same health benefits without the high. This article on the difference of CBD and THC goes very in depth if you want to learn more.

With hemp oil becoming so popular, there are some things you should consider before buying an oil as well as what CBD oil can be used for. First, let’s talk about what to look for in an oil. benefits of CBD oil

Quality CBD Oil

First,  you want to look at the type of growing conditions of the plant that is used to make the oil.  Is it grown in the US or elsewhere? Is it organically grown and is eco-farming processes used? Is it non-GMO. Is it processed in a special way? Meaning, how is the cbd extracted from the plant? Some companies use a specialized extraction process to make sure all the benefits of the oil are preserved.

I also like to see if their manufacturing is up to par. Is it manufactured in a GMP facility? Does the company do any third-party testing on their oil? You see, some hemp oils will still contain trace amounts of THC. This should concern you if you are subject to random drug testing. If you are, then you want to look for a hemp oil that contains 0% THC. And is it double tested to ensure there is 0% THC?

Why is all this important? Well, if I take a supplement, I want to know that I’m taking a quality product that is going to be effective. I don’t want to spend my money on something that I’ll get little benefit from – especially if I can spend a little more for a high-quality product that I will get a LOT of benefit from! So these are all things to consider when choosing a  quality CBD oil. Don’t choose based on price – choose based on personal research.

Benefits of CBD Oil

So, what are the benefits of CBD or hemp oil?

CBD oil is used in many different applications, but let’s talk about what it does. So, apparently, we have a whole endocannabinoid system to which cannabis oil acts on the receptors in the nervous system and brain. benefits of CBD oil

A quick look through PubMed (which is an online database which lists all kinds of medical studies. It’s a good resource to see what is being “tested” to see if it “works”) reveals that there are LOTS of studies using CBD for many different applications. I see studies for epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, inflammatory bowel disease, osteoarthritis, pain management and more. A quick google search shows that CBD oil can be recommended for many things such as pain, sleeplessness, mood elevation, and anxiety. That’s a lot for one little oil to do!

CBD Oil for Pain

While the jury is still out if it’s useful in pain management more and more studies and testimonies are touting the use of CBD oil for pain. What kind of pain? I’ve seen it suggested for arthritis pain, chronic pain, joint and muscle pain, back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain. My Mom hurt her shoulders and she is happy with the relief she gets from the CBD oil she takes. The oil works as an anti-inflammatory as well as a pain blocker so if you have pain, you might give this remedy a try.

CBD Oil for Anxiety

CBD oil is used for anxiety. The oil is known to help people relax, so it makes sense that it helps with anxiety. It works with your bodies serotonin to not only help you relax but to improve your mood as well. I have a friend that uses cbd oil for relief from her panic attacks. There are even studies about its use for social anxiety. Be sure to also read this post about simple ways to relieve anxiety.

  1. Great article on CBD Oil!

I am fortunate that marijuana is legal here in Canada, and with its legalization, I started using CBD Oil for pain and anxiety. I don’t use it often, just with flare ups, but it does make a significant difference.

This is a great resource, especially the time you took to explain how CBD differs from THC.
