Of all the vitamins, I’d have to say Vitamin C is my favorite because it’s so powerful and versatile. I read somewhere that if a heroin addict were to take Vitamin C, nothing would happen because the Vitamin C detoxifies the heroin. Seriously, it is a very powerful antioxidant and more!
Vitamin C is an Antioxidant
Vitamin C benefits can be found in a lot of places. For example, it is a very powerful antioxidant and can have many health benefits. It helps to build immunity and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases, high blood pressure or reduce the risk of heart disease. Many studies have been done around it helping with memory loss too.
Vitamin C Builds Collagen
Without enough C, collagen in your skin can start to break down. Because collagen is a connective tissue it’s important for keeping your skin looking firm and wrinkle-free. It can also help to fight against UV rays which we know aren’t good for our skin. Using a skin cream with Vitamin C is useful since you are putting the needed nutrient right where it’s needed. Vitamin C Boosts Immune System
It is vital in helping the body fight off germs that make us sick. Why do you think most people take an additional Vitamin C supplement when they feel a cold coming on? Because it helps to naturally gives you additional protection against the viruses that cause colds. This is a debated argument, but since it is a water-soluble vitamin (meaning if my body doesn’t use it, it just gets rid of it) then I don’t worry about getting too much of it. This is my go-to when I need it!

So, taking Vitamin C doesn’t help you lose weight BUT, if you don’t get enough of it it can actually keep you from losing weight. See, it helps you to metabolize fat, so if you don’t have enough of it, you will find it is difficult to lose weight.
Where to find Vitamin C
Of course, the best way to get enough is by eating lots of foods that are high in Vitamin C. Most people think of oranges or orange juice. Did you know other citrus fruits like grapefruits and lemons are good? Did you know a serving of strawberries actually has more vitamin C than an orange? True. Kiwi, cantaloupe, honeydew melons and peaches are also a good choice.
But don’t just think fruit. Lots of vegetables are high in this key vitamin like Brussel sprouts, broccoli, and green peppers. Red peppers actually have more C in them than green ones & they are so yummy on salads.
Speaking of salads – lots of green leafy veggies like spinach, kale and turnip greens will help you get your daily dose so fill up those salad plates.
Signs of a Deficiency
Some of the signs your body shows when you aren’t getting enough Vitamin C are slow wound healing or easy bruising, bleeding gums or painful joints. Your skin can look dry and rough. If you find your energy levels or low and you feel lethargic. C is important with iron absorption, so it could also cause you to have an iron deficiency.
