So, what are the best foods for healthy glowing skin? I’m glad you asked! Here’s my roundup of the top 5 foods I found to be most helpful for beautiful skin.


I would consider this the top food for great looking skin. Every article I read mentioned this powerhouse food. Avocados are full of Vitamin E, A and D and are loaded with healthy fats.

I found a study where rats were given avocado oil which resulted in collagen production, though I’m not sure if the same results will show in humans (but hey, it’s worth a shot right?). foods for beautiful skin

Avocados are yummy cut up on a salad or served sliced on a whole grain bread. I’ve also like to throw a sliver into my smoothie. Oh – and I make a yummy “fondue” with them as well!


I’ve read that gut health is connected to your overall health. If you have a healthy gut – good bacteria and flora – then you can digest food easily and your body can use the nutrients.

Probiotics are important for good gut health. Yogurt is chocked full of these little guys and it’s a great way to get your probiotics. Make sure you choose a greek yogurt that is low in sugar and high in protein. You can also choose a probiotic supplement.

Read the labels and try to aim for a yogurt that has no more than single digits amounts of sugar. I’ve fallen in love with the Icelandic style yogurt! Yum! You can eat yogurt any time of day – for breakfast with cereal, with lunch or as an afternoon snack.


Berries are an excellent source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is good for your skin because it is an antioxidant and helps with the aging process. Choose from strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and even goji berries. You can sprinkle them on your yogurt, eat them in a fruit salad or enjoy them on a salad.


Fish rich in Omega 3 and Vitamin E like salmon, albacore tuna and mackerel are all great choices. The essential fatty acids help the skin look plumper and help to reduce inflammation.

Please don’t confuse Omega 6 (which is in processed foods) with Omega 3. Typically you can’t eat enough fish to get the recommended amount so I recommend taking a high quality essential fatty acid supplement. foods for beautiful skin

I love having smoked salmon in the summer on a bed of lettuce or thinly sliced on crackers. Tuna is also a great choice on a salad for lunch.

Oranges & Lemons

Oranges contain beta-carotene which helps repair skin cells. They also both contain Vitamin C and are delicious when added to your water.  I love using a crystallized lemon or lime packet when I’m out and about.

Other orange veggies such as sweet potatoes and carrots also contain vitamin A. I will admit I love sweet potato fries, even though I shouldn’t eat fried foods. So, a good baked sweet potato is also an option. Mandarin oranges make portable snacks as do carrots.

Keep in mind if you have dry itchy skin, sometimes it’s a sign that you need to add more vitamin A rich foods to your diet. So, make sure you are eating a rainbow of fruits, veggies, and whole foods and your skin will thank you by putting it’s best out for the world to see!
