This year, you should try changing up your workouts to help maximize your weight loss. The first change you can make to your workout routine is the time of day in which you workout.
Best Time to Workout
There are many people who prefer to work out in the morning and for good reason. First, it helps a lot of people get ready for their days and gives them a bit more energy. Working out gets your heart pumping and your blood flowing, so you’ll be ready to get through the rest of your day. I love working out in the morning. I have better energy through the day and I know when I leave work that my workout has been completed!
Another important factor in a morning workout is that you’ll be low on carbohydrates because you’ve not eaten yet. This means your body will be forced to burn off fats for energy instead of carbs. While morning workouts are great for some people, they might not be the most effective time to work out for you if you aren’t a morning person. exercise changes for weight loss
In the late afternoon and early evening, your body temperature is at its highest, and in turn, so is your performance in a workout. A good early evening workout can also be a great way to get you ready for dinner and then for bed. So you could work out right after work and then feel good because after you’ve finished your workout you’ll be tired. Which hopefully means you will sleep better.
There are certainly people who find it more convenient to work out late at night and into the early morning hours. Not only is this based on their schedules, but many just find it relaxing to go later because the gym is usually less crowded and much quieter. Some people are night owls and have higher energy in the late nights. If this is you, find a gym that is open 24 hours and you can work out when you want. You certainly won’t have trouble finding a treadmill or weight machine not being used.
This can also help you be less sore in the morning, as your body will have the night to work on the recovery process. At the end of the day, the most important factor in finding a good workout time is that it works for you and you find it easy to fit into your daily routine.
Change your Exercise Routine
Don’t’ just change up the time of day that you exercise but change up your fitness routine as well. I know some days I’ll use the elliptical machine. Other days I may take a class like Yoga or Barre. I may choose a higher intensity core class or an aerobics class. HITT classes are becoming more popular and I’m finding I enjoy that on occasion. Doing the same thing every day gets boring, so mix up your exercise routine and see if you can make some exciting changes like more muscle tone or a slimmer waist. exercise changes for weight loss
Staying Motivated to Workout
One of the biggest obstacles that people always have to overcome in their fitness routines is sticking with it. If your workout times aren’t convenient then you won’t stick with it and you will give up. Think about it. If you are a morning person, get up earlier and go to the gym before work. What about at lunchtime? If the end of the day is your high energy time, then plan to work out after work or later in the evening.
Also change up the types of exercise you do. Try new exercise classes or plan to meet a friend at the fitness center for a class. If you don’t belong to a gym, you can go for a run or a walk in the park. Find a set of inexpensive hand weights and do some weight-bearing exercises at home.
No one will stick to an exercise routine they don’t like. As long as you’re happy with the time of your workouts, you’re more likely to stick with your program longer. If you want to make a schedule and do something different every day for a week or a month, do it! exercise changes for weight loss
Review Your Diet
Don’t be afraid to change up your entire healthy lifestyle programs periodically. That means from a nutritional standpoint as well as the types of workouts you’re doing. Don’t let your body become too accustomed to a routine because then it will know how to work against you to keep the fat on. So, if you find yourself eating the same foods, try a different eating plan. Try a whole foods diet. Maybe a keto diet (find more on low carb diets here or intermittent fasting.)
I find that my diet also changes with the seasons. In the spring and summer, I eat lots more salads. In the winter I turn to soups. I do try to watch what I eat and I make sure that if I do indulge around the holidays that I do it in moderation.
I also think that everyone should be taking some sort of nutritional supplement. You can not get all the nutrients you need from the food you eat. You should be taking a daily multivitamin supplement along with extra calcium and an Omega oil. I’m a huge Youngevity fan and their supplements are backed by years of science and are absorbed quickly so your body can use them. Be sure to read this Smart Girls Guide to Vitamins & Supplements
So, the bottom line is that you can’t expect changes by doing the same thing. Albert Einstein said, “Doing the same thing and expecting a different result is insanity.” So, if what you are doing isn’t working for you then mix it up. But find something you like and enjoy. Get outside if that’s what you like. If not, go to the gym or find an exercise channel or video site. Simple and enjoyable changes will keep you moving toward your health goals. I’m cheering you on! exercise changes for weight loss
